Applying for an ARO Unit
- Search the Chicago ARO Map and identify properties with ARO units
- Contact the Property Manager/Leasing Agent to inquire about the ARO unit availability and application process
- Complete ARO unit application and submit documentation to the Property Manager/Leasing Agent
Documentation requirements may include, but are not limited to:- Current/consecutive paystubs
- Current/consecutive bank statements
- Verification of Employment sent directly to the applicant’s employer
- Verification of Deposit sent to the applicant’s bank
- If the applicant is self-employed, a self-employment affidavit must be completed as instructed, along with the submission of the required documents listed on the form
- If the applicant receives monthly benefits from Social Security, a Pension, or Veterans Administration, provide a current benefit award letter
- The Property Manager/Leasing Agent will review application, and if approved, applicants must sign/date the Tenant Income Certification (TIC) form, which confirms that the information provided is correct
- The TIC form must have a wet signature or DocuSign signature
- The Property Manager/Leasing Agent will then submit the application to DOH
- DOH staff conducts a secondary eligibility review and notifies the Property Manager/Leasing Agent of approval/denial within 10 business days
- If the applicant is approved in the secondary eligibility review process, the Property Manager/Leasing Agent will provide an approval letter with lease agreement and all supporting documents
- If the applicant is denied in the secondary eligibility review process, applicant will receive official paperwork from the Property Manager/Leasing Agent on how to appeal a denial
- The applicant must submit the appeal in writing within ten (10) business days from the date of the notice of ineligibility to the Property
- If the applicant is not approved, the Property Manager/Leasing Agent will provide applicant a copy of the final determination letter not to proceed
