The Commission on Chicago Landmarks today presented 13 Preservation Excellence Awards honoring individuals and organizations for notable achievements in restoring, reusing and promoting the City's historic architecture.
"We are delighted to recognize such an outstanding group of winners dedicated to historic preservation and revitalization," said Andrew J. Mooney, commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development (DPD). "Their investments add to Chicago's unique architectural and cultural heritage and to the economic well-being of our neighborhoods."
Held for the 15th time, the event took place at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St.
The awards recognize extraordinary improvements to designated Chicago landmarks, properties with landmark districts and other projects that preserve Chicago's architectural history. Each project was chosen by the Commission's Permit Review Committee.
The nine-member Commission on Chicago Landmarks recommends buildings and districts for landmark protection and approval by the City Council. Staffed by DPD, it also works with homeowners, businesses, organizations and developers to promote the preservation and maintenance of historic properties.
