The goal of Chicago Registry Week is to create a by-name registry of people living on our streets and shelters, so we can prioritize those who have been out there the longest and who are the most vulnerable.  What we learn together during this week will help us reduce chronic homelessness in Chicago. Additionally, we hope to house 150 singles and 20 families identified during the registry by December 31, 2010. 

Increasing the number of chronically homeless individuals in permanent housing is a national goal that we report to HUD annually.  We have done well at meeting our goals, mainly because we have received resources targeted to this population.  Yet in non-targeted units, there still may be challenges in connecting individuals and families who are eligible for your programs and who are in most need for supportive housing.  We hope that a common assessment and database will improve this connection.

We are asking for your support and commitment to help Chicago meet its initial housing goal, and demonstrate the effectiveness of a coordinated path to housing.

In partnership with New York's Common Ground, the Corporation for Supportive Housing, the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services and the Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness are planning a week long effort to help homeless individuals obtain and sustain housing as part of Common Ground's 100,000 Homes Campaign

	The Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness The Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness works to create, support and sustain effective strategies to end homelessness in Chicago.  The Alliance brings best practices, system coordination and evaluation to Chicago's Plan to End Homelessness. We manage more than $50 million in state and federal grants for homeless services. We remove barriers to ending homelessness through policy work. We increase public awareness and support for ending homelessness. And so much more.
	The Corporation for Supportive Housing The Corporation for Supportive Housing is a national nonprofit organization and community development financial institution that helps communities create permanent housing with services to prevent and end homelessness.
	Common Ground Founded by MacArthur and Ashoka Fellow Rosanne Haggerty in 1990, Common Ground is a pioneer in the development of supportive housing and other research-based practices that end homelessness. Common Ground’s network of well designed, affordable apartments — linked to the services people need to maintain their housing, restore their health, and regain their economic independence — has enabled more than 4,000 individuals to overcome homelessness.
	The Emergency Fund The Emergency Fund provides immediate financial help to individuals and families facing a crisis. Whether its assistance with rent, utility bills, transportation, or even a bed for a child, the Emergency Fund provides for these basic needs when people have no where else to turn for help. The Emergency Fund engages a network of partner agencies throughout greater Chicago to make our services accessible in every neighborhood in the city and many surrounding suburbs.
