Affordable Homeownership Opportunities
The Department of Housing (DOH) creates homeownership opportunities through various programs that help moderate-income residents purchase a home in Chicago at an affordable price. The price the buyer pays for the home is below the market value of the property.
These homes are made available for purchase when new units are built or when existing homeowners decide to sell their properties.
To be eligible, buyers must occupy the home as their primary residence, and the household’s gross annual income may not exceed the maximum income limits for each available property. For income limit information, view the Area Median Income (AMI) Chart.
Homebuyers must also receive HUD-approved pre-purchase counseling and provide a certificate of completion prior to closing. If purchasing a condominium, buyers are required to attend condo training and secure a separate certificate of training.
The long-term affordability of these units is preserved by limiting any subsequent sales of the homes to income-eligible buyers at an affordable price.
For more information on an individual property listed below, call the number associated with each listing, which can be found at the links below.
If you're pre-approved for a mortgage and ready to purchase a property that's listed for resale, download, complete the application materials below, and email the documents to destiny.durham@cityofchicago.org in order to obtain a DOH pre-approval decision.
