Howard Land Use Planning

In 2023, there was a year-long community visioning process for Howard Street that resulted in the creation of the One Howard Street Economic Recovery Plan. The process included collaboration between the cities of Chicago and Evanston and the Rogers Park Business Alliance,

To build upon the goals identified in the One Howard Street Plan, the City of Chicago drafted zoning and development strategies to encourage investment consistent with the community’s vision for a more vibrant corridor and neighborhood. The proposed land use framework and zoning recommendations were shared at a community open house in October 2024 and received enthusiastic support from neighbors and business owners.

In March 2025, Ald. Maria Hadden (49th) introduced an ordinance to rezone Howard Street from Western Avenue to Sheridan Road. Community members seeking more information about how the proposal would affect their property can review the informational boards from the October 2024 open house.
