WARMING CENTER AT GARFIELD COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER
WILL BE OPEN SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND AND 3RD ,
FROM 9AM-5PM, DUE TO BITTER COLD TEMPERATURES
The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) Warming Center at the Garfield Community Service Center at 10 S. Kedzie, will be open on Saturday and Sunday, February 2nd and 3rd, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m., due to bitter cold temperatures forecast for this weekend.
DFSS normally operates Warming Centers at six of our Regional Community Service Centers when temperatures fall below freezing during weekday regular business hours. On the weekend, holidays, or during off hours, residents seeking a warming center will be directed by 3-1-1 operators to other City facilities designated for warming. In many cases these will be police stations or libraries. Opening the Warming Center at 10 S. Kedzie will bolster this existing off hour network.
Anyone seeking a warming center this weekend, or at any other time, should continue to call 3-1-1 for information about the facility closest to them. They can also request transportation if they can’t get to that facility. Additionally callers can request overnight shelter, well-being checks or any other existing City service. Warming Center requests that come in during the evening hours are treated as shelter requests.
