The Chicago Cycling Strategy
In March 2023, CDOT released the Chicago Cycling Strategy, outlining why and how we will build our bike network – at both the neighborhood and citywide scales.
A Record year for bikeways
50+ miles of bikeways completed
27 miles of new and upgraded protected bike lanes
18 miles of new neighborhood greenways
Coordination & Best Practices
Building a "Low-Stress" Network
90% of bikeways projects were designed for low-stress riding on protected bike lanes & greenways
Improving safety on state routes
Protected bike lane installed on Jackson Boulevard, resulting from interagency coordination
Neighborhood Network Expansion
New bike connections in the works for over 100,000 residents in Little Village, Brighton Park, Gage Park, McKinley Park
