Woodlawn TIF

Designation: 1999    Expiration: 2035

The Woodlawn TIF includes 330 acres of mostly residential land uses along with a concentration of commercial uses along 63rd Street, various institutional uses on adjacent blocks, and randomly scattered vacant parcels. Located immediately south of the University of Chicago campus in the Woodlawn community, the district's overall purpose is to strengthen residential and commercial land uses within the area by providing incentives for private investment. Priorities include pedestrian-friendly improvements to the area's commercial corridors, new open spaces, and other enhancements that promote neighborhood identity. Funding is intended to assist property rehabilitation initiatives, demolition projects, land assembly efforts, and environmental remediation activities. Job training and certain interest costs are also supported by the TIF.
