Stockyards Industrial/Commercial TIF

Designation: 1989    Expiration: 2012

The Stockyards Industrial/Commercial TIF is intended to foster commercial and industrial viability within the New City community. Encompassing portions of the Stockyards Industrial Corridor and its environs, much of the area experienced disinvestment with the departure of most area meatpacking companies by the late 1960s and the simultaneous advent of suburban retailing trends that rendered area commercial districts obsolete. The TIF, one of the city's first, is intended to provide resources for the area's revitalization, specifically through site assembly projects, demolition and remediation efforts, new roadways and sewer lines, lighting and public works, and related developer incentives. Job training is also supported by the TIF.
