89th/State TIF
Designation: 1998 Terminated: 2013
The 89th/State TIF district was designated to foster the redevelopment of outdated industrial land with contemporary single-family homes. Prior to its designation, the 38-acre district suffered from obsolete truck access and experienced ongoing industrial disinvestment until its sole employer was a beverage company that was reducing operations. Largely surrounded by Chatham's stable residential community, the TIF was created to provide a harmonious change to residential from industrial use through coordinated infrastructure investments and the partial elimination of certain streets to increase the amount of developable land. The district today provides a nearly seamless connection with its adjacent residential neighbors.
