Englewood Culinary Hub Proposed for Revised City Assistance
Department of Planning and Development 312.744.9267
City support for a $13.95 million “eco-food and culinary hub” planned for the former Green Street firehouse in Englewood would be modified to help finalize project financing under a proposal introduced to City Council today.
Previously approved to receive up to $6 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance over three phases, the project’s updated terms would consist of $7 million in TIF over a single phase to address recent increases in labor and materials costs.
Known as Englewood Connect, the project by McLaurin Development and Farpoint Development would continue to consist of the fire station’s interior buildout as a food-related business incubator and event space employing more than 45 people.
The $1 sale price for the City-owned firehouse, built for Engine Co. #84 at 6204 N. Green, would also remain unchanged.
Any subsequent phases proposed for City assistance would require new redevelopment agreements subject to City Council approval.
