City Council today approved $5.55 million in TIF assistance for Presence Health that will reimburse the company for $28.8 million in citywide office improvements, including neighborhood medical facilities in underserved communities that need more access to high quality health care.

Presence Health is the largest provider of Medicaid in the city of Chicago. The neighborhood projects made possible through the TIF assistance will serve more than 22,500 people while creating 39 permanent jobs and 62 construction jobs. The 44,000-square-foot headquarters build-out at 200 S. Wacker Dr. created and retained 200 permanent, full-time positions in addition to more than 60 temporary construction jobs.

Collectively valued at $15.5 million in construction costs, the neighborhood projects include:

Avondale: Presence Neighborhood Medical Home, 2933 N. California Ave.

• Approximately 8,000-square-foot build out of formerly vacant property will provide integrated services involving prevention, health maintenance, chronic disease management and behavioral health for approximately 4,000 patients.

Belmont-Cragin: Presence Neighborhood Medical Home, 2257-59 N. Cicero Ave.

• Approximately 6,000-square-foot building expansion project will provide primary health care for 4,000 patients.

Calumet Heights:Unite Here Presence Neighborhood Medical Home, 9000 S. Stony Island Ave.

• Approximately 6,200-square-foot renovation project will provide healthcare involving internal medicine, cardiology, and infectious diseases for 4,200 patients, 95 percent of which are African-Americans. Facility is the only remaining integrated, primary care practice in Calumet Heights.

West Town: Presence Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center, Center for Cancer & Specialty Care, 2216 W Thomas Ave.

• Approximately 13,200-square-foot project will provide state-of-the-art cancer care 13,500 patients, including Austin, which has the highest number of cumulative deaths related to cancer in the city. Designated Safety Net Hospital and largest provider of Medicaid services in IL providing $7.73 M in charity care to uninsured and underinsured patients in 2015.

The TIF-funded reimbursements would be provided as four payments over three years after all the projects are completed.
