The Illinois Medical District (IMD) transit station on the CTA Blue Line will be improved through a
$23 million Tax Increment Financing (TIF) plan approved today by City Council.
 
“By renovating the Illinois Medical District Blue Line stop, we are continuing to invest in our city’s
vital transportation system and ensure that all Chicagoans, including those with disabilities, have an
easy and safe commute,” said Mayor Emanuel.

The funds will be used to rebuild the main station house at 1841 W. Ogden Ave., upgrade entrances
to the commuter platform, and install an elevator for people with disabilities. The work will also
include the reconstruction of two auxiliary entrance ramps, the installation of bus and train tracker
displays, and repairs to the station’s canopy.
 
Constructed in 1958, the station serves the IMD, which is home to four major medical centers and a
variety of other institutions and businesses. Ridership increased by more than 53 percent over the
last five years to 1.1 million passengers in 2013.The project will be entirely funded by TIF. Work
will be completed in 2016.
