The Department of Planning and Development (DPD) is launching engagement efforts for “Clark Street Crossroads,” a corridor study in Uptown that will produce a series of land use recommendations to enhance the street’s mixed-use vitality and walkability.

DPD initiated the one-mile-long study last month to examine residential and commercial market conditions between Montrose and Foster avenues, and also to identify opportunities for new development, zoning enhancements and public realm improvements.

A virtual workshop for area residents, businesses and interested parties is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15. Workshop registration is available directly through Zoom or through the study’s website, ClarkStreetCrossroads.com.

The workshop, along with a public survey on the study website, will include interactive exercises to identify opportunities for economic development and urban design improvements.

Public input will be used by DPD and study partners to create a unified vision for corridor improvements. Draft recommendations will be published in 2022 prior to potential review and adoption by the Chicago Plan Commission.

Financed by $250,000 from the Clark/Montrose TIF District, the Clark Street Crossroads study is led by DPD with support from Uptown United, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, among others. Steering committee members include Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th), Ald. James Cappleman (46th) and Ald. Matt Martin (47th).
