A 67,580-square-foot West Town warehouse would undergo more than $10 million in improvements through a Cook County Class 6(b) property tax incentive proposed to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Owned by Prologis, the one-story building at 455 N. Ashland Ave. would be leased to battery manufacturer NanoGraf Corp., which would perform a variety of electrical system upgrades, dock improvements and structural reinforcements. The work would accommodate 50 employees that would be added within two years of completion.

The incentive would reduce taxes on the property by an estimated $2.7 million during the 12-year term.

The Class 6(b) incentive is intended to encourage industrial retention and attraction involving underutilized buildings and property.
