A $43.7 million wellness hub would be constructed in West Garfield Park through a City land write-down proposed to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.
Consisting of three vacant lots totaling .39 acres at 4301-29 W. Madison St., the parcels would be sold for $1 each to the Garfield Park Wellness Center Support Corp. and used for the construction of the Sankofa Village Wellness Center. The land is appraised at $45,600.
The three-story wellness center is planned to include an Erie Family Health clinic, mental health offices for non-profit and minority-owned businesses, offices for Rush Health and West Side United, and a fitness center. The center is expected to create 100 full-time jobs.
The project is also being assisted with $5.9 million in City funds made possible through a land sale agreement with RUSH University, which recently sold former City land at 303 S. Damen Ave. to the Chicago Blackhawks after it was no longer needed for healthcare purposes.
