The retail development, to be located at 111th Street and South Kedzie Avenue, (northwest corner) will be the first significant retail development to come to the community in years.

“We are delighted that a new retail development will bring shopping convenience and more retail to this community,” Department of Community Development Acting Commissioner Chris Raguso said.  “This project will provide jobs for local residents and add economic vitality to the surrounding neighborhood.”

The developer, Gendell Partners-Mt. Greenwood LLC, will build a 17,500 square foot retail plaza that will be anchored by a new Walgreens drugstore.

The 1.9 acre site will also include a rehabbed second building to accommodate other retail needs, a green plaza with extensive landscaping and seating and onsite parking.

The green plaza will serve as the central focal point for the business district, include seating along a brick-paved pathway and contain a sign that will identify and welcome people to the Mount Greenwood community.

City support for the project includes the sale of a parking lot for $1 and $1.5 million in TIF assistance for the development.
