Archer Avenue - 47th to Western
Archer Avenue - 47th to Western
Overview
CDOT is implementing Complete Streets safety improvements for Archer Avenue between 47th Street and Western Avenue. These upgrades are designed to address the longstanding traffic safety concerns in the neighborhood, wide unprotected pedestrian crossings, speeding and unsafe passing, and a high volume of large vehicles on the road.
Project Goals & Infrastructure Highlights
Proposed improvements include:
- Shorter pedestrian crossings and increased visibility for people crossing Archer Avenue with refuge islands and curb extensions.
- Bus boarding islands to serve as exclusive spaces for bus riders and to increase comfort and streamline transit so buses do not need to merge in and out of traffic at stops.
- Concrete protected bike lanes to separate people biking from people driving and increase the safety of everyone on the street.
- Better organization of the street by clearly delineating space for all users of the street and designating additional space for people walking.
- Left turn lanes to keep traffic on the street flowing and to stop cars from weaving in and out of lanes.
