Goose Island TIF

Designation: 1996    Expiration: 2032

The Goose Island TIF district includes 94 acres of primarily industrial land along the north and east side of Goose Island, which was created during the 1860s through a clay excavation project that created the North Branch Canal. Spanning portions of the Near North Side and West Town communities, the TIF is part of an existing industrial corridor that, in addition to supporting viable businesses, includes unused rail right-of-ways, vacant land and a waste disposal site. The goal of the TIF is to foster industrial development and rehabilitation projects that create jobs and add to the local tax base. Funds are targeted for property acquisition, site preparation, construction of public works, job training and related initiatives.
