Calumet/Cermak TIF

Designation: 1998     Terminated: 2018

The Calumet/Cermak TIF district is characterized by large industrial buildings that were occupied by the R.R. Donnelley & Sons printing complex until 1994. Located near the lakefront on the Near South Side, three of the properties are historic structures that, at the time of the district's designation, required substantial investment to remain viable for continued use. The 11-acre district is intended to foster private redevelopment of the buildings for new uses, provide opportunities for residential development on adjacent sites, and establish a unifying pedestrian environment in the area. Additional district priorities include transportation improvements for vehicles, commercial improvements to support residential growth, and infrastructure improvements that provide connections with the nearby Prairie Avenue Historic District and McCormick Place Convention Center.
