95th/Stony Island TIF

Designation: 1990    Expiration: 2014

The 95th Street/Stony Island TIF district was created to provide coordinated land use, pedestrian, vehicular, and urban design improvements within the South Deering community, and to ensure that new development meets contemporary development standards within a reasonable time frame. Its primary purpose is to facilitate the redevelopment of 76 acres of underused and vacant land for commercial projects that provide goods and services that meet area needs. With much of the district comprised of a vacant rail-road right-of-way, targeted priorities include a grocery store, restaurants and other retailers. The district is also intended to help protect a wetlands area along its southern border, and to reinforce industrial uses along the north side of 95th Street
