John Raber House

The Italianate-style residence was constructed by John Raber, a prominent area businessman, real-estate developer, and politician. The house is 2-1/2 stories with a tall basement, topped with a cupola and has a one-story wing on the north. The house stands on a large lot which was originally landscaped with the concept of an elegant country estate. The photo on the lower right shows the property's condition from 1987. The original building was modified by architect Thomas Wing in 1894 and has been used as a six-flat. The John Raber House was designated a Chicago Landmark on April 16, 1996.
