Charitable Solicitation Permits

Charitable Solicitation (Tag Day) Permits allow organizations in the City of Chicago to solicit funds to support specific causes on the City's public way (streets, sidewalks, plazas, etc.) over a defined number of days. Charitable Solicitation Permits are processed by the Committee on Finance and authorized by the full City Council.

Charitable Solicitation Permit Process

Groups wishing to host a tag day may apply with the Committee on Finance using the linked application form. This form and accompanying required documents must be sent to the Committee either via email to CommitteeonFinance@cityofchicago.org. or hard copy at:

Once the Committee receives the application, staff will review the packet and contact the organization should additional information be required. Completed applications will be introduced into the next Committee on Finance meeting, and if passed in Committee, will be considered during the subsequent City Council meeting. Upon City Council passage, the authorized permit will be sent to the applicant. Applications must be submitted to the Committee 30 (thirty) days prior to the start of the charitable solicition period. 

Upon completion of the solicitation, organizations must submit a report to the Committee detailing revenues/expenditures no later than 60 (sixty) days after the last solicitation date. Failure to transmit this report may result in penalties for the organization.
