Chicago – Weekend gatherings include the Hot Chocolate Run and the Northwestern game at Wrigley Field, among other events.  The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) also stresses that participants, residents and visitors be aware of surroundings and vigilant and report any suspicious activity to 9-1-1.   

DHS and FBI Public Service Announcement:  The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have issued a Public Service Announcement to highlight potential threats in the United States from a variety of actors in response to the HAMAS attacks on Israel on October 7and subsequent activities in the region, including additional calls by foreign terrorist organizations to their supporters seeking to foment violence in the West. This announcement reflects a fluid and evolving situation; the terrorism threat in the Homeland has remained heightened throughout 2023, but recent events have increased the possibility of potential attacks against individuals and institutions in response to developments in the Middle East. Report Suspicious Activity:  See Something, Say Something^® The city reminds the public to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity to 9-1-1. If you notice something suspicious, notify onsite security or call 9-1-1. The Chicago Police Department is closely monitoring situations throughout the city alongside our local, state, and federal partners. Though there is no actionable intelligence regarding any credible threats in Chicago at this time, there is an increased uniformed police presence across the city, including at all large gatherings, out of an abundance of caution and will continue its mission to keep all residents and visitors of our city safe.  

Hot Chocolate 5k, 10k, 15K (7:30 a.m.) and 2-Mile Walk 

The 16^th annual Hot Chocolate 5K, 10K. 15K and 2-mile walk is on Sunday, November 5, with street closures and activity in Grant Park and will take participants north on Columbus to Wacker Drive, through the Loop, south on Michigan Avenue to 31st Street, then south on MLK Drive to 35th Street before heading back on the lakefront path to the finish just south of Balbo and Columbus.  

Expect additional activity on Thursday (3 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and Friday (11 a.m. to 8 p.m.) at Navy Pier for the Hot Chocolate Expo, where over 28,000 participants pick up race day packets.

BIG TEN FOOTBALL NORTHWESTERN VS IOWA AT WRIGLEY FIELD  

Wrigley Field hosts Northwestern Wildcats vs Iowa Hawkeyes Big Ten Football on Saturday, November 4 at 2:30 p.m.  Gates open at 12:30 p.m. for the 2:36 p.m. kick-off.  https://www.mlb.com/cubs/tickets/specials/football  

ADA drop-off is located on Waveland between Clifton and Seminary.  Residential parking restrictions are in effect in the area.  Rideshare/TNP drop-offs/pick-ups are in designated areas.  Truck restrictions in the area are in place 90 minutes before the game through an hour after the game. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFR) for the airspace within a three nautical mile (3NM) radius of Wrigley Field from approximately 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.  

Note: There will be a United States Army flyover at approximately 2:30 p.m. during the National Anthem. A practice run will take place on Friday afternoon.   

Fall Bridge Lifts and Boat Run  

On Saturday, the 27 bridges from DuSable Lake Shore Drive to Ashland will be lifted sequentially starting at 9 a.m. for the fall bridge lifts as boats return to storage. Motorists and pedestrians should be aware of the impact and seek alternate routes to avoid delays. 

As always, the OEMC will monitor events citywide from the Operations Center through a collaboration with public safety partners. OEMC advises Chicagoans to be aware of weather conditions and to follow instructions and heed all warnings from public safety officials. Residents are encouraged to check the weather before heading out. For the most up-to-date information, please tune into local media or download the Chicago OEMC app. Traffic Control Aides (TCAs) will be on hand at select events citywide to direct flow and impacts from increased traffic.

Lakefront Poles Markers/Location Identifiers: For public safety on the lakefront, residents and visitors are reminded to be aware of the numbers attached to the light poles throughout the Grant Park area and along the lakefront. The green signs with white letters and numbers are also located from 5700 N. DuSable Lake Shore Drive to 6600 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, and on the lakefront from Oak Street to Fullerton and Montrose to Foster Avenue to help residents reference their location within the park to friends, family and first responders if there is an emergency and you call 9-1-1.
