The Chicago baseball teams meet for the second series of the Crosstown Classic, this time played at Guaranteed Rate Field on the South side this weekend.  During a weekend filled with many events and activities resuming for the summer season, the Chicago White Sox take on the Chicago Cubs with games on Saturday and Sunday.  Fans, residents and motorists are urged to be aware of the suggested traffic options and other activities happening in the city, especially on Saturday and Sunday, and to prepare accordingly. 

The Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) reminds everyone to be aware of surroundings and be vigilant in crowds.  Be proactive for everyone’s safety and report anything or anyone or any situation appearing suspicious to 9-1-1 or onsite security.   

Chicago’s favorite baseball teams meet at Guaranteed Rate Field on 35^th Street this Saturday at 6:15 p.m. and Sunday at 1:10 p.m. Neighborhood parking restrictions will be strictly enforced.  Fans are encouraged to be mindful of each other and respect the surrounding community.   

Chicago White Sox vs Chicago Cubs at Guaranteed Rate Field 

Saturday, May 28:  6:15 p.m.  

Sunday, May 29:  1:10 p.m. 

Parking lots will open 3 hours before the start of each game this weekend.  Gates will open 1.5 hours before the game.  Fans driving to the games and arriving after the gates open or closer to start of the game are encouraged to proceed directly to the overflow lot located at McCormick Place (Lot B). Free shuttle service will be available from the overflow lot. Only medical bags, small clutch purses and diaper bags (when an infant is present) are allowed in the ballpark.  Fans are urged to arrive early for security screenings and should also be mindful to keep sidewalks passable and yield to emergency vehicles. Weather 

OEMC will monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend with the National Weather Service.  Fans are urged to be aware of the ballpark’s sheltering and evacuation plan prior to gametime should situations warrant taking shelter.  

Rideshare/Taxi’s, Limo’s  

The Uber Lot is located in Lot A on Wentworth Ave for pick-up and drop-off. The lot is open until one hour after the conclusion of the home game.  Fans arriving by Uber should enter and exit the ballpark through Gate 5. 

ADA 

ADA Paratransit pick up and drop off is located on Waveland between Clifton and Seminary.  

Traffic Plan 

To assist with increased traffic and activity around the ballpark, the Traffic Management Authority (TMA) will deploy traffic control aides (TCA’s) for the games. 

Public Transportation 

Public transportation is recommended. Public transit is the most affordable, convenient and environmentally friendly way to get to and from the ballpark.  CTA Red Line stops near the ballpark at the Sox-35th St station and the Green Line is just (2) blocks east at the 35th St station.  For CTA Train and Bus information, visit www.transitchicago.com. A Metra stop is located at 35th St, just east of the Dan Ryan Expressway, along the Rock Island line. 

Parking  

If driving to the ballpark, pre-paid parking is strongly encouraged. Fans can purchase tickets in advance at whitesox.com/parking. Follow signage and TCA direction to parking lot entry.  Residents and fans should follow neighborhood parking restrictions surrounding the ballpark area, displaying the required parking permits, and adhering to other regulations in effect on game days.  Parking restrictions will be strictly enforced. If your vehicle is towed, call 3-1-1 City Services to obtain assistance in locating your vehicle.   

Report Suspicious Activity - If You See Something, Say Something 

As always, OEMC encourages attendees, ballpark employees, fans as well as residents to always be aware of surroundings at all times and report any suspicious activity to onsite security or by calling 9-1-1.  Some of these activities could be innocent; however, it’s up to law enforcement to determine whether the behavior warrants investigation.  

Alcohol, Peddling and Parking Enforcement 

Throughout the season, the Chicago Police Department stresses the strict enforcement of public intoxication ordinances and DUI laws, as well as City and State liquor laws that prohibit over-serving and serving alcohol to minors. Additionally, the peddling of goods without a license and the selling or soliciting the sale of residential parking passes is illegal. The Chicago Police will have an increased presence around Chicago White Sox to ensure public safety on game days.
