The City of Chicago will conduct multiple neighborhood public safety drills on Thursday, September 10 as part of our latest precautionary efforts in our all-hands-on-deck public safety strategy. The Citywide Asset and Infrastructure Protection Plan will be concentrated on neighborhood retail areas. Two drills will be taking place, one in the 2nd (Wentworth) Chicago Police District and one in the 25th (Grand Central) District. The drill is part of the City’s ongoing effort to engineer security measures in order to mitigate risk to neighborhood business corridors throughout the city in the event of a public safety emergency. 

Residents in each area may experience traffic disruptions.  

• District 25 Location: 2600 N. Narragansett Avenue retail area. 
• District 2 Location: 47^th Street and Cottage Grove retail area. 

The drill will be implemented by city personnel to ensure the safety of large public gatherings and heavily trafficked pedestrian areas with critical infrastructure assets staged at various access points. The focus of this exercise is to ensure the safety and well-being of residents, workers, businesses and peaceful gatherings. The drill is not in response to any event but has been planned for weeks as part of our ongoing safety efforts.  

Participating City of Chicago Departments include: Office of Emergency Management and Communications, Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, Chicago Department of Transportation, Streets and Sanitation, Department of Water Management, Chicago Transit Authority, among others.
