Midway Expands Food and Food and Beverage Choices for Passengers with Opening of Chicago Favorite, Big Shoulders Coffee Shop
Big Shoulders is one of 70 new dining and retail Stores opening as part of three-year Midway concessions redevelopment
CHICAGO – The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) joined airport partners for the opening of Big Shoulders Coffee at Midway International Airport on Thursday. The new coffee joint offers travelers a daily selection of locally brewed and roasted coffees delivered fast and hot.
This new location is part of the 70 new food and retail brands arriving to Midway as part of the $75 million concessions redevelopment led by the CDA with Midway Partnership.
“We are excited to bring our travelers more choices in coffee with the opening of the new Big Shoulders Coffee shop at Midway,” said Jamie L. Rhee, Commissioner, CDA. “Big Shoulders Coffee started in Chicago and is now a hometown favorite. Through our Midway concessions redevelopment, we look forward to bringing forward many more unique local brands that will give our passengers a sense of place, and a taste of the City of Chicago.”
Located near Gate A14 on the A Concourse, this is the first, standalone Big Shoulders Coffee location at Midway. Big Shoulders has been a City staple since 2012, with locations in the City of Chicago in the following areas - the Loop, West Town the Gold Coast, River North and in the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) building.
“We are thrilled to increase our coffee brand recognition at Midway, and very grateful for the opportunity to touch so many passengers who travel through the airport on a daily basis,” said Tim Coonan, Founder, Big Shoulders Coffee. “We keep it simple by staying focused. We believe that we have the perfect cup of coffee for Chicago and for the traveling public at Midway.”
Big Shoulders Coffee was named one of “The 25 Best Coffee Roasters in America” by Gear Patrol in June 2018. In addition to its signature coffee brands, Big Shoulders Coffee has a daily assortment of specialty drinks, and breakfast sandwiches.
The coffee purveyors will be on hand next week to provide demonstrations, free samples of coffee to passengers for the kick off of 2019 Airport Restaurant week, which runs from January 25 to February 7.
