Suicide is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. Use CDPH's dashboard to learn about Chicago-Specific suicide mortality rates and other data points.

You can learn more about state and national suicide data through the following resources:

  • The Illinois Violent Death Reporting System (IVDRS) collects and analyzes state-level data on violent deaths, including homicides and suicides on behalf of the Centers for Disease Control and Illinois Department of Public Health. As part of the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), IVDRS provides detailed data reports to researchers, policymakers, and violence prevention programs.
  • The CDC Data and Statistics Resource provides an interactive chart and platform to view the most recent suicide data overall and by selected demographic characteristics. This includes age, gender, race/ethnicity, and method of suicide.
