Protect the Planet This Earth Month
Every year, CDPH recognizes the month of April as Earth Month! Earth Day and Arbor Day both take place this week, great reminders of how to support our home planet and the environmental protections that keep it healthy.
How can residents get involved and be a part of the solution to combat pollution?
- Sign up for neighborhood-level environmental updates from CDPH
- Request a free parkway tree from 3-1-1
- Participate in a citywide park cleanup this weekend with the Chicago Park District
- Recycle your hazardous materials and unused electronics at the Hazardous Chemicals and Computer Recycling Facility
Immunization Week
It's National Infant Immunization Week (April 21–28) and World Immunization Week (April 24–30)! These observances remind us how important vaccines are in protecting our communities, starting from infancy. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can cause serious complications, especially in young children. The best protection? The MMR vaccine, which protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. Make sure your child is up to date on their immunizations–it's one of the most effective ways to keep them healthy and safe.
To see the schedule of immunizations for infants and kids by age, visit the Centers for Disease Control site.

Healthy Chicago Podcast
Episode 80 [SPANISH]: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), vaccinations save six lives every minute, a trend that has held strong for the past five decades.
In recognition of World Immunization Week, observed during the last week of April, the latest episode of Healthy Chicago's Spanish-language podcast features Whitney Bellido, a nurse at CDPH's immunization clinics. She shares insights on the importance and effectiveness of vaccines and debunks some of the most common myths surrounding them. Vaccines save lives!
