COVID-19 Data Dashboard Being Retired

Due to changes in COVID-19 reporting requirements for healthcare providers and laboratories in the State of Illinois, our COVID-19 Dashboard has been retired as of May 22. You can still access data about COVID-19 activity in Chicago through our Respiratory Virus Surveillance reports and on our Chicago Data Portal. Though the COVID-19 Dashboard will no longer be updated, an archived version will remain available on the CDPH website.

Please visit our Public Health Guidance page to help you make decisions about what preventive actions to take against COVID-19. You can also reference the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated Respiratory Virus Guidance.

New Podcasts for Mental Health Awareness Month

Our focus is on mental health for the month of May! In the newest episode of the Healthy Chicago podcast, CDPH Assistant Commissioner of Mental Health Alisha Warren discusses the Healing Arts Chicago program with community health workers and local artists Jewel Hale and Shannon Harris. The pair talks of the successes and challenges each artist has experienced in their workshops, and what their classes do for individuals in the surrounding communities.

In the Spanish-language podcast, Dr. Francisco Rodríguez, Director of the Mental Health Centers at CDPH, joins Dr. Geraldine Luna to delve into the impact and challenges of mental health stigma within the Latino community in Chicago. They also address the specific challenges that Latinos encounter when seeking mental health care.

Our Roots Continues Celebratory Tree Plantings

Chicago’s urban tree canopy is growing! On Wednesday, May 22, City leaders from Our Roots Chicago joined Latinos Progresando, The Nature Conservancy Illinois, and other community partners for a celebration of 116 recently planted trees along Cermak Avenue in Pilsen. This event rounded out several celebrations to kick off this year’s tree planting season, which opened in April to celebrate Earth Month, Arbor Day, and National Arab American Heritage Month.

Our Roots Chicago launched in 2021 and led to more than 41,000 trees planted since 2022. Residents are encouraged to learn more about the benefits of trees at chicago.gov/ourroots and then submit requests for their own free parkway trees using the CHI311 app.
