North DuSable Lake Shore Drive Resurfacing Update: Week of September 15th

Traffic impacts include overnight full closures of all lanes in active work zones

September 19, 2024 Update: The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) today announced that the limits of the closure going into effect tonight are being extended north to Belmont Avenue (previously Fullerton Avenue).

September 17, 2024 Update: The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT)  announced updates to this week’s resurfacing schedule on North DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The start times for full closures will be pushed to 10:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, September 17, and Thursday, September 19. Please see below for full details, with changes highlighted.

 

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) today announced updated traffic impacts related to the ongoing resurfacing of North DuSable Lake Shore Drive (DLSD) between LaSalle Drive and Hollywood Avenue. Upcoming work will require temporary full closures of all lanes, where work is being performed, beginning the afternoon of Sunday, September 15th. All work is expected to be completed by late-October.

The upcoming schedule for the week of September 15th is as follows:

Sunday, September 15th: Beginning at 3:00 p.m. all southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will be closed between Irving Park Rd. and Belmont Ave. This will include closing all entrance and exit ramps between Irving Park Rd and Belmont Ave. Inner Lake Shore Drive will remain open to detour traffic. All lanes will open by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

Monday, September 16th: Beginning at 7:00 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane between Irving Park Rd. and Fullerton Ave. and all ramps will remain open. Beginning at 9:00 p.m. all southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will be closed between Irving Park Rd. and Fullerton Ave. This will include closing all entrance and exit ramps between Irving Park Rd. and Fullerton Ave. Inner Lake Shore Drive will remain open to detour traffic. All lanes will open by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

Tuesday, September 17th: Beginning at 7:00 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to two lanes between Belmont Ave. and Fullerton Ave. and all ramps will remain open. Beginning at 10:30 p.m. all southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will be closed between Belmont Ave. and Fullerton Ave. This will include closing all entrance and exit ramps between Belmont Ave. and Fullerton Ave. All southbound vehicles will exit at Belmont Ave. and detour to Fullerton Ave via Sheridan Rd and Cannon Dr. All lanes will open by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.


Wednesday, September 18th: Beginning at 7:00 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to one lane between Fullerton Ave. and LaSalle Dr. and all ramps will remain open. Beginning at 9:00 p.m. all southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will be closed between Fullerton Ave. and LaSalle Dr. This will include closing all entrance and exit ramps between Fullerton Ave and LaSalle Dr. All southbound vehicles will exit at Fullerton Ave. and detour to LaSalle Dr. via Stockton Dr.  All lanes will open by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

Thursday, September 19th: Beginning at 7:00 p.m., southbound DLSD will be reduced to two lanes between Belmont Ave. and LaSalle Dr. and all ramps will remain open. Beginning at 10:30 p.m. all southbound lanes of DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will be closed between Belmont Ave. and LaSalle Dr. This will include closing all entrance and exit ramps between Fullerton Ave and LaSalle Dr. All southbound vehicles will exit at Fullerton Ave. and detour to LaSalle Dr. via Stockton Dr.  All lanes will open by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

Friday, September 20th: The work starting Thursday night requiring full traffic closure will be reopened to traffic by 6:00 a.m.

CDOT advises drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and construction signage when entering and driving near work zones, obey the posted speed limits, and be alert for workers and equipment.
