CDOT Public Way Permit & Digger Modernization Project Underway
February 27, 2015
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is in the process of modernizing and replacing current public way permit processing and Dig notification systems as part of the mayor’s paperless initiative.
At the end of this project, CDOT intends to streamline public way permit application process through City’s integrated online permit portal.
The permit portal will:
- Enable customers to apply, pay and print permits online
- Allow applicants to verify current status of application, resubmit applications if corrections are required, and extend certain permits with CDOT approval
- Provide customer license information related to Public Way, Dumpster and Canopy work.
This new system will continue to support payment for permits at CDOT permit office cashier counters and monthly invoicing.
The new Citizens Utility Alert Network (CUAN) / Digger system will feature:
- Web service based integration with utilities for efficient dig notice delivery;
- Enable public to request non-emergency dig tickets on-line;
- Backup notification mechanisms to ensure delivery of dig notices;
- Notification based on the GIS based maps provided by infrastructure owners for improved efficiency;
- Integration with City’s permit portal featuring a web interface that will allows users to request and manage dig tickets.
The project, currently under development, is planned to be completed by Q4 2015. Please continue to check CDOT's website for updates.
