CDOT: Milwaukee Avenue Complete Streets Project Beginning Monday, October 2
The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that on Monday, October 2, construction will begin on a Complete Streets improvement project along Milwaukee Avenue between North Avenue and Campbell Avenue to enhance safety for all road users. The project includes the following improvements:
- Concrete protected bike lanes will separate people biking from people driving and increase the safety of everyone on the street.
- Improved CTA bus stops will help enhance bus operations and provide more space for transit users.
- Reduced crossing distances and increased visibility for people crossing Milwaukee, including a pedestrian refuge island and upgraded curb bumpouts.
- Improved connections to the Bloomingdale Trail for people walking and biking.
Work is expected to last through the construction season.
The bike lane between North and Campbell will be closed during construction and flaggers and signage will be in place to manage bicycle traffic. People biking can take an alternative route using the bike lanes on Damen Avenue and Armitage Avenue to avoid the work zone.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and construction signage when entering and driving through work zones, obey the posted speed limits, and be alert for workers and equipment, as well as pedestrians, cyclists and other motorists.
