Commission on Animal Care and Control, City of Chicago Board - Meeting Dates
The Commission on Animal Care and Control, City of Chicago is an advisory board consisting of nine members appointed by the mayor.
Per the Municipal Code of Chicago - Chapter 2-120-010/020 - The Commission shall function as an advisory body to the Mayor and to Chicago Animal Care and Control with regard to animal-related matters in the City of Chicago. The Commission shall have the duty to provide an annual report to the Executive Director of the Department that makes recommendations for the continual improvement of operations and live outcomes.
Said Commission shall consist of nine members to be appointed by the Mayor, three of whom shall be members, respectively, of the Police Department, Health Department, and the Department of Streets and Sanitation; with the remaining six members to include at least one representative of a humane society as hereinafter defined, at least one veterinarian licensed under the laws of the State of Illinois, and at least three private citizens. All Commission members shall be residents of the City of Chicago and shall serve without compensation.
The Commission shall function as an advisory body to the Mayor and to Chicago Animal Care and Control with regard to animal-related matters in the City of Chicago. The Mayor shall designate one of its members to act as chairman for a term of 12 months, subject to redesignation for any number of additional terms of two years. The Commission shall meet at least once every three months, unless otherwise determined by the Commission or when called upon to do so by the chairman.
Each Commission member shall serve for a period of two years from date of appointment subject to reappointment by the Mayor for any number of additional terms of two years, except that four of the initial appointments as designated by the Mayor shall be for a term of only one year. Each Commission member shall serve until a successor has been appointed by the Mayor. The Mayor shall appoint members to fill vacancies which may occur due to death, resignation or incapacity.
Public notice is hereby given that the Commission on Animal Care & Control will hold regular meetings on the dates listed below.
Beginning May 23rd, the Advisory Board meetings will be held in person in the Auditorium at Chicago Animal Care and Control and also available livestream.

How to request time to speak:
- Members of the public wishing to speak must send an email with your full name, phone number, email address, and subject of the comment to askcacc@cityofchicago.org. Requests for Public Comment Speakers will be accepted beginning at 10 a.m. the Friday preceding the meeting through 10 a.m. the Wednesday preceding the meeting. Each speaker will receive a confirmation email noting their number in line to speak along with the phone number to call in on.
- Public Comment will take place at the beginning of each meeting, versus after each presentation. A maximum of 10 members of the public will be permitted to comment for 3 minutes each due to technical limitations. Selected speakers will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Public Comment will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. After a quorum is determined. If the speaker misses their time, they will be skipped and called upon at the end of the Public Comment portion if time permits.
- Questions made during the public comment section will not be responded to.
