BACP and CCHR take very seriously the recent allegations that Parlor Pizza Bar violated the City of Chicago’s labor and anti-discrimination ordinances. The City is working to conduct a comprehensive investigation of allegations that workers were not paid for overtime work, that employees were sexually harassed and that customers were discriminated against based on their race and/or age.

BACP urges current and former employees to step forward and work with us as we investigate these allegations and work to compensate any workers harmed by unjust business practices. We encourage any employees who believe they were harmed to contact the Office of Labor Standards (OLS) by sending an email to BACPlaborstandards@cityofchicago.org or by calling 312-744-2211. OLS can help guide employees through the complaint process and work to remedy any violations they have experienced.

CCHR encourages customers who have visited any of the Parlor locations and believe they were discriminated against based on a protected class which includes race, national origin, age and/or were denied an accommodation related to a disability to contact CCHR by sending an email to cchr@cityofchicago.org or by calling 312-744-4474.

Businesses operating in Chicago should be aware that BACP and the CCHR will not tolerate disregard for the City’s labor or anti-discrimination laws, and that businesses will be held accountable for any violations. As employers in the City of Chicago, businesses are responsible for fostering safe and lawful working conditions and for ensuring that their accommodations are free from discrimination based on race, age, sex or any other protected class.

The CCHR is charged with enforcing the Chicago Human Rights Ordinance and the Chicago Fair Housing Ordinance. It investigates complaints to determine whether discrimination may have occurred and uses its enforcement powers to punish acts of discrimination.

BACP’s Office of Labor Standards protects workers through a strong investigation and enforcement regime. The OLS is dedicated to promoting and enforcing Chicago’s labor laws, including the Anti-Retaliation, Fair Workweek, Minimum Wage, Paid Sick Leave, Vaccine Anti-Retaliation and Wage Theft Ordinances.

Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot continues to prioritize protecting workers, including as a part of the Mayor’s recently enacted Chi Biz Strong Initiative. The bold plan puts workers at front and center of our city’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic as we set the marketplace on a path towards a strong, rapid, equitable and long-lasting recovery.
