1. Review our FAQ and minimum placement requirements for bike racks.
2. Enter your request in the CDOT Bike Parking Public Request Map.
3. The Bike Parking Manager will then perform a field visit to ensure that rack placement meets CDOT standards.
4. If approved, the rack will be added to the CDOT installation list.

Are you a business owner or developer who would like to install improved bike parking options at your location? Please follow the steps below.

1. Review our FAQ and minimum placement requirements for bike racks.
2. Learn about bike rack options to determine the approach for your location:
   • The CDOT Bike Parking Program recommends an inverted U rack made of galvanized steel.
   • Review the the APBP Bike Parking Essentials Guide (page 8) to learn about effective racks and avoid common design and installation pitfalls.
   • If you would like to install a custom bike rack in the public right of way, please email bikeparking@chicagocompletestreets.org for guidance.
3. Once a plan is finalized with CDOT, you may apply for a Public Way Use Permit and the Bike Parking Program will assist in siting your new bike rack or corral.

CDOT has many successful partnerships with local community organizations to help them install custom branded bike racks in their neighborhoods. If your SSA, Chamber of Commerce, or local Community Organization is interested, please contact the CDOT Bike Parking program via email to discuss the process, rack options and the availability of funding.

• Bike corrals require a maintenance agreement and aldermanic approval, CDOT will help coordinate these processes, and determine whether proposed corrals will impact car parking

If a local business wants to relocate a bike rack in the public right of way, they should first contact the City of Chicago Bike Parking Program Manager at bikeparking@cityofchicago.org to help evaluate relocations options.

The Bike Parking Program Manager will perform a site visit and mark out the location(s) for the relocated rack(s). Once the new location(s) are marked, the business will need to follow these steps to have the rack(s) moved:

• Apply for a Public Way Use Permit.
• Hire a qualified local contractor to move the rack(s).
• Notify the Bike Parking Program Manager when the racks have been moved.
