On June 6, Mayor Rahm Emanuel attended the 18th Annual Human Rights Awards. Presented by the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), the Human Rights Awards honor the work of immigrants and recognize human rights champions. 2017 awardees include Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Aon, Reed Smith LLP, and Dr. Zaher Sahloul.

In his address to the assembled group of lawyers, elected officials, and human rights advocates, Mayor Emanuel assured that for immigrants, Chicago "is your home, where you will be safe, secure, and supported."

More than 1,000 people attended the luncheon, raising $1 million to provide legal services to immigrants. For more information on the Human Rights Awards and the National Immigrant Justice Center, visit their website or follow them on twitter.
