The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) announced that utility work at the intersection of Randolph and Clark will begin to cause shifting traffic patterns. Beginning on Friday, January 15, Commonwealth Edison will begin much needed upgrade work, accessing their equipment through a manhole located in the center of the intersection. ComEd will work all hours on Monday through Friday and an additional 12-hour shift on Saturdays to minimize the length of the disruption. This accelerated schedule will help get the work completed by April.
Lanes will be reduced from three to two, with the east curb lane of southbound Clark (north of Randolph) as well as the south curb lane on westbound Randolph between Clark and LaSalle closed to traffic. Arrangements will be made for parking/standing on the blocks adjacent to the intersection. Southbound motorists should consider using alternatives, such as Wacker or State Streets. Drivers heading west can use Wacker or Madison as less congested alternatives
The utility work at this intersection is being coordinated with water service upgrades on Randolph to minimize inconvenience to motorists in the Loop.
