Mayor Brandon Johnson Meets with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal
CHICAGO – Today, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson welcomed Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and his delegation to the City of Chicago.
Their meeting at City Hall, alongside Special Representative for Ukraine’s Economic Recovery Penny Pritzker, centered on Chicago’s Ukrainian community, which stands as one of the largest in the United States. Mayor Johnson underscored the city's steadfast support for Ukraine, particularly highlighting the tens of thousands of displaced Ukrainians who have found a welcoming home in Chicago since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
"Chicago has a vibrant and supportive Ukrainian community, and we stand firmly in solidarity with Ukraine," Mayor Johnson said. "Our enduring ties with Kyiv through our sister city relationship exemplify our unwavering commitment to fostering collaboration and support, not only during these challenging times but also throughout the ongoing rebuilding efforts in Ukraine."
