“I applaud the U.S. District Judge’s ruling against the Trump administration’s malicious attempt to degrade our democracy by politicizing our census and bullying our immigrant communities into the shadows. Adding a citizenship question to the census has one goal—to disadvantage cities and states with larger immigrant populations so that they receive a lower share of representation in Congress and federal funds. While President Trump continues to sow the seeds of division, Chicago will continue to proudly join leaders across our country in fighting for the rights of our residents and standing up for our highest ideals as Americans.”
