Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced that pothole-filling crews from the Chicago Department of Transportation will be on the street seven days a week to address potholes in streets and alleys across Chicago, ordering a weekend shift to start earlier than usual this winter.

In the first few days of 2014, crews have already filled more than 15,000 potholes, using more than 330 tons of patching material. CDOT crews repaired more than 625,000 potholes in streets and alleys across Chicago in 2013.

“All city departments are working to ensure our roadways are safe, and this includes repairing the many potholes that formed as a result of the 23 inches of snow we’ve had this year and the bitter cold temperatures earlier this week,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “City workers have done a tremendous job plowing and salting streets and making pothole repairs in all neighborhoods to keep Chicago moving.”

CDOT has 22 pothole crews on the street today, including three that will work over the weekend and one that works overnight. The three weekend pothole crews work Friday through Monday on 10-hour shifts without additional overtime costs. They have been mobilized today, a week earlier than they did in 2013.
