Board continues working on implementing nonprofit lobbying amendments
The Board is now drafting Rules and Regulations that will fairly implement recent amendments to the Governmental Ethics Ordinance that require staffers (or others) paid by nonprofit organizations who engage in lobbying (as defined) on behalf of those organizations to register as lobbyists with the Board of Ethics. Implementation and enforcement of this law has been delayed until April 20, 2020, at the Mayor’s request. The Board next meets on Monday, January 13, at 3 p.m. at 740 North Sedgwick, 5th Floor. We encourage persons who may be affected by this amended law to attend and raise industry-specific concerns and questions to the Board, and/or email their concerns and questions to our Executive Director at steve.berlin@cityofchicago.org. The Board and Mayor’s Office are committed to hearing and understanding these concerns and incorporating them into its Rules and Regulations as appropriate and feasible.
