With brilliant color and provocative forms, the artists in this exhibition suggest an alternate universe, at once familiar and surreal, seen through the prism of their invention. Echoes of landscape, still life, and psychological portraiture reside in resolutely abstract works.
Performances
Saturday, August 6, 12pm Michigan Avenue Galleries, 1st Floor East Performance by musicians, Caroline Davis, Katie Ernst, and Ben Hoffman, inside Selina Trepp's installation. Guided by Trepp’s three wall-sized animations, the performers will spontaneously create music that responds, compliments and builds on the animations surrounding them and each other. This performance will activate the space by focusing on the musicality of the animations and giving an audience the opportunity to witness the creating of improvised music.

Michigan Avenue Galleries, 1st Floor East Raquel Gonzalez, Chér Jey and Dan Bitney will perform inside Selina Trepp’s Installation the first floor north galleries in the Chicago Cultural Center. This performance will activate the space in yet another way, this time focusing on the musicality of the animations and giving an audience the opportunity to witness the creating of improvised music. Violinist Raquel Gonzalez, vocalist Chér Jey and multi-instrumentalist Dan Bitney will perform improvised musical sets guided by Selina Trepp’s three wall-sized animations, creating music that responds, compliments and builds on the animations surrounding them. |

ActivationSaturday, August 27, 9:30-11am Millennium Park, Lurie Garden Michigan Avenue Galleries, 1st Floor East Plein Air Painting -- a parallel play experience. Artist Leslie Baum invites you to invite a friend to join you for a self-directed outdoor painting experience. Gather in the Lurie Garden in Millennium Park. Bring your own materials and a blanket or chair to sit on. Baum will also plein air paint in the park with a friend. Instruction is not provided -- this is simply an opportunity to paint outdoors with a partner, and to share that experience with many others doing the same. After this collective plein air painting experience, Baum will host a brief walk-through of her exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center. |
