As in past years, DCASE continues to offer support and funding to Jazz presenting venues and organizations via the Citywide Jazz Community Funding program, which supports free jazz performances citywide the week leading up to the Jazz Festival. Participating 2024 venues below.

• 3-9pm - Rockwell Street Stroll

The fourth annual Rockwell Street Stroll will take place this summer on Sunday August 11, from 3-9pm. Event partner Burning Bush Brewery will host an acoustic stage in the taproom, and the main stage will be located at Delmark Records, 4121 N. Rockwell. Performers featured will include the Delmark All Star Band with guests including Willie Buck, Tad Robinson, Jimmy Burns, Sheryl Youngblood, and Jamiah Rogers, as well as the Soul Message Band, and several solo acoustic artists.

The MCA is thrilled to present Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty, an all-women collective of multi-instrumentalist artists who explore the outer fringes of jazz and beyond. Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty are a revolving collective and network of Great Black Women Composers. The group is led by clarinetist/pianist/vocalist Angel Bat Dawid and includes multi-sensory artist, pianist, and vocalist Sophiyah E. (Detroit), vocalist/saxophonist Monique Golding, trumpeter/vocalist Tramaine Parker, and multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Eva Supreme. Emerging from the Great Black music traditions of Chicago and Detroit, this group comes together with a myriad of musical backgrounds, textures, and sounds relying heavily on spontaneous compositions and improvisation.

With a unique lineup for a jazz group — consisting of congas, hand percussion, piano, saxophone, bass, and drums — they weave together vibrant sounds and rhythms that captivate audiences and always has them dancing to the music.⁠ They will be doing a mini-residency at The Whistler on August 27th and 28th, as a part of the 2024 Chicago Jazz Festival.
