Pre-2019 Chicago Building Code
In 2019, the City of Chicago adopted major amendments to its construction requirements, which became mandatory for most permit applications started August 1, 2020, or later. As part of the transition, many pre-2019 requirements were repealed effective August 1, 2020. As these requirements may still apply to projects permitted before the transition, a snapshot of Titles 13 and 15 of the Municipal Code as of July 31, 2020 is available here:
Title 13: Buildings and Construction (as of July 31, 2020)
Title 15: Fire Prevention (as of July 31, 2020)
For users more familiar with the International Building Code (IBC) organization, the Department of Buildings has prepared a table which correlates pre-2019 construction-related provisions of the Municipal Code of Chicago to chapters within the Common Code Format topical groups used by the IBC.
