In May 2019, Department of Buildings Commissioner Judy Frydland and Deputy Commissioner Grant Ullrich gave a presentation entitled “Using Chicago’s New Construction Codes – Basics for the AEC Community”. The presentation provides a comprehensive overview of Chicago’s code modernization process (2015-2021); expected benefits of the code modernization; key dates for implementation of Phase 2; key changes made by the Phase 2 ordinance; and tentative plans for Phase 3.
