Climate Infrastructure Projects
The City of Chicago Climate Infrastructure Fund was created to help achieve the City’s Climate Action Plan goal of reducing greenhouse emissions by 62% by 2040. The Fund — part of the Chicago Recovery Plan — supports neighborhood projects that mitigate the effects of climate change and accelerate the city’s equitable transition to the green economy. The City has provided grants up to $250,000 to support capital investments in energy-efficiency projects, electric vehicle infrastructure and green infrastructure.

Garfield Nature Play Park
Climate Infrastructure Fund (CIF) finalist Garfield Park Community Council (GPCC) is a community-based organization made up of residents and allies dedicated to developing leaders and creating opportunities which will build a thriving Garfield Park.
Thanks to a $250,000 CIF grant, GPCC will construct a new nature play area that promotes healthy child development and physical activity on a vacant lot along the Fifth Avenue Resilient Corridor. The funding will also support green stormwater management at the nature park that addresses localized flooding in the area.
