Accommodations
A hotel is any building advertised as an inn, hotel, motel or similar establishment where seven or more sleeping rooms are rented to guests. Sleeping rooms belonging to the hotel cannot be intermingled on any given floor with sleeping rooms not belonging to the hotel.
A bed and breakfast is an owner-occupied residential building not more than four stories in height and in which 11 or fewer sleeping rooms are available for rent for a period of 31 or fewer consecutive days.
A shared housing unit is a dwelling unit (an apartment or home) with six or fewer sleeping rooms that is rented for a period of 31 or fewer consecutive days. Hosts must obtain a City Registration before holding their home out as a shared housing unit. Some hospital and commercial care facilities also require City of Chicago business licenses, including adult family care centers and homes, assisted living establishments, long term care facilities, and hospitals.
