Mayor Brandon Johnson Announces the Appointment of Roberto Requejo to the Chicago Transit Authority Board
CHICAGO – Mayor Brandon Johnson is pleased to announce the appointment of Roberto Requejo to the CTA Board. This appointment, confirmed by the City Council today, marks a pivotal step in the city’s commitment to advancing equitable transit-oriented development and enhancing public transportation for all Chicagoans.
Roberto Requejo, currently serving as the Executive Director of Elevated Chicago, has been at the forefront of initiatives that intersect urban planning, community development, and public transit equity. With a distinguished career dedicated to fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders and advancing policies that support equitable access to transit, Requejo brings a wealth of expertise and a visionary approach to the CTA Board.
“Roberto’s appointment is a testament to our administration’s commitment to a more inclusive and efficient transit system in Chicago,” said Mayor Brandon Johnson. “His extensive experience and accomplishments, particularly in equitable transit-oriented development, align perfectly with our goals for the future of the CTA."
Throughout his tenure at Elevated Chicago, Roberto Requejo has spearheaded the coalition’s workplan to promote equitable transit-oriented development, securing over $2 million annually to support a project pipeline valued at more than $600 million. These initiatives have included the development of affordable homes, community facilities, commercial spaces, and public art near transit stations. His collaborative efforts with the Mayor's Office, city departments, and transit agencies have been instrumental in implementing the city’s ETOD Policy Plan and leveraging federal funds for transformative projects.

Roberto Requejo’s educational background includes a Master's Degree in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and advanced studies in Political Science and Public Administration from the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela. His civic leadership roles have positioned him as a key advocate for transportation equity and community development, including serving on Mayor Johnson’s Transition Committee and contributing to the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning's regional transit initiatives.
As Roberto Requejo joins the Chicago Transit Authority Board, the City of Chicago and the CTA are set to embark on a new chapter of innovation and inclusivity in public transportation, with a renewed focus on serving the needs of every resident and neighborhood.
