Mayor's Press Office 312.744.3334
CHICAGO – Due to a Wind Chill Warning until noon on Tuesday, January 16, in addition to the Wind Chill Advisory until Wednesday, January 17 at 9 a.m., Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus have postponed this week's meeting of regional municipal leaders.
Temperatures between now and January 17 are expected to bring extreme cold and wind chills as low as 30-40° below zero to the Chicago area, potentially affecting schools, utilities and other municipal services in towns and villages across the region.
Residents can expect extreme cold and should avoid outdoor activities. Motorists are advised to slow down and use caution while traveling due to slippery road conditions. Wind chill can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. If you have to be outside, wear appropriate clothing to protect yourself from the extreme cold.
The meeting will be rescheduled as soon as possible for a later date. For additional information on emergency preparedness information, visit the OEMC website at Chicago.gov/OEMC.
